The Neo-Adlerian approach reflects an attempt to mix Adlerian principles with those of Cognitive Therapy, Reality Therapy, Object-Relations, Positive Psychology, Solution-Oriented Therapy, and other popular psychologies. Dreikurs' teachings form the basis for many parent education programs. The counseling technique is more systematic and didactic. It features a simplified, four-stage counseling model of limited life style change. The Dreikursian approach is based on the theoretical and therapeutic variations developed by Rudolf Dreikurs. The therapeutic technique is creative and Socratic. It features a twelve-stage depth psychotherapy model that targets the dissolving of the style of life and fictional final goal, paving the emergence of the self/other/task actualization described by Abraham Maslow. Adlerian counselors collect early recollections, or ERs, because they offer corroborating evidence of a client’s life style. He recognized the common occurrence of empathy in the lives of people and the critical role of the process in counseling and psychotherapy. They help us see the kind of world a particular person feels he lives in, and the early ways he found of dealing with that world (excerpted from Henry Stein’s The Collected Clinical Works of Alfred Adler, Volume 7).
